The upcoming biography will feature Pimp C and will be written by Julia Beverly, OZONE Magazine’s ex-publisher and editor-in-chief.
It is said that Julia got to interview 250 individuals to write the book and is guided by Weslyn “Mama Wes” Monroe, Pimp C’s manager and mother.
In a press release, Beverly revealed that people tend to remember Pimp C due to his controversial interviews and methods. But only a few understand that he is very talented and his complexity goes beyond the controversies that he is more known for. In fact, the singer-rapper-producer has significantly contributed to several artist’s success. This, and the fact that Pimp C wasn’t receiving proper recognition, was what drove Julia to write about him to begin with. The more she dived deep into Pimp C’s story, the more she felt the need to tell the rapper’s biography – and Beverly is in the best position to do this.
Few of the many people whom Julia Beverly were able to interview to make the book were
8Ball, the Geto Boys, Goodie Mob, Ice-T, Lil Keke, Master P, David Banner, Mannie Fresh, MJG, Paul Wall, Slim Thug, Snoop Dogg, Three 6 Mafia, Trae, Webbie and Z-Ro.
The book, despite being Pimp C’s biography, also touches various compelling topics – Houston’s dynamic musical culture, the rise and fall of the entertainment industry, politics in the justice system in Texas, human trafficking, and drug abuse to name a few.
Last December 2007, the rapper was reported dead in West Hollywood then in February the following year, codeine and promethazine were found in his body system. The chemicals, along with the rapper’s apnea sleeping disorder, were factors that allegedly lead to his death.
