Jamaican songbird Samantha J signs deal with Columbia Records and is now working on her debut album.
As part of the deal, the 17-year-old model and singer-songwriter will get an advance of about $325,000 to $700,000 for her first album. She will reportedly get more if she stays with Columbia until her sixth studio album.
Samantha Gonsalves. better known by her stage name Samantha J, says that she’s happy to be the newest member of the Columbia family.
“I cannot express how happy I am to be a part of the Columbia Records family. The label has a rich history of developing great artistes and music. As soon as I have my exams under my belt, I can’t wait to get back to producing music and most of all making Jamaica proud,” Samantha J said in her press release.
The label has worked with other reggae and dancehall artists before like Mad Cobra, Super Cat, Ini Kamoze, and Peter Tosh.
Columbia Records is a subsidiary of Sony Music Entertainment.
Samantha J is best known for her 2013 hit, “Tight Skirt,” which has topped international song charts.
